About OpenModelStats

OpenModelStats continuously observes public model repositories and records what it sees — download counters, likes and ranking positions — building an independent historical record of how open-source AI models grow and change over time.

Why history matters

Public model platforms typically show you a snapshot: current downloads, current likes. Once a number changes, the old value is gone. OpenModelStats preserves those observations so questions like “how fast did this model actually grow?” or “what was its popularity three months ago?” can be answered with real recorded values rather than estimates.

Independence

OpenModelStats is an independent analytics platform. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Hugging Face or any other model platform. Source metadata originates from publicly available APIs; all historical observations, derived growth metrics and rankings are collected and computed by OpenModelStats itself.

Principles

• Show real observations; never interpolate or fabricate history.
• Distinguish clearly between source-reported values and OpenModelStats-derived metrics.
• If a number cannot be calculated reliably, show nothing rather than something misleading.
• Label every ranking by its actual scope (for example, “among tracked models”).
